Hello, adventurers!  Are you already envisioning your next grand getaway? We sure are! And guess what? Planning for next year just got a whole lot easier because the UAE public holidays for 2025 have been officially announced. One of the many benifits of teaching in the UAE is the number of holidays, both school and public, that are given and the travel opportunities this represents. Get ready to mark your calendars for some well-deserved time off!

In the UAE, 2025 will have a minimum of 12 public holidays on the horizon. And if Ramadan lasts 30 days, as it did in 2024, you might even enjoy an extra day off.

The early unveiling of the UAE public holidays for 2025 came in May through the UAE’s official gazette after a thorough review of federal laws in the constitution. This proactive approach sets the stage for a smoother planning process and gives us something to look forward to next year.

What’s more, a new resolution, as part of UAE Cabinet Resolution No.27 of 2024, introduces changes in how certain public holidays will be announced starting next year. If a holiday falls on a weekend, a Cabinet decision could carry it to the beginning or end of the week, giving you that coveted long weekend. While this special treatment excludes Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, it opens up the possibility of enjoying an extra day off when a public holiday coincides with a Saturday or Sunday.

This resolution, influenced by reviews of labor relations, human resources, and public holidays, will officially kick in on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

UAE

While exact dates for some holidays are dependent on moon sightings, we do have a lineup of confirmed occasions to look forward to. Drumroll, please!

When are the UAE Public Holidays 2025:

  • January 1, 2025: New Year’s Day
  • Ramadan 30 (if Ramadan is a 30-day month)
  • Shawwal 1-3: Eid Al Fitr holiday
  • Dhu Al Hijjah 9-12: Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha
  • Muharram 1: Islamic New Year
  • Rabi Al Awwal 12: Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday
  • December 2-3: UAE National Day

Predicted UAE Public Holidays 2025:

  • New Year’s Day: January 1, 2025
  • Eid Al Fitr: March 31 – April 2, 2025
  • Arafat Day: May 30, 2025
  • Eid Al Adha: May 31 – June 2, 2025
  • Islamic New Year: June 27, 2025
  • Prophet Mohammed’s birthday: September 1, 2025
  • Commemoration Day: December 1, 2025
  • National Day: December 2-3, 2025

It’s important to note that a public holiday can’t be rolled over if it coincides with another public holiday or a weekend. Additionally, local governments have the authority to approve additional official holidays beyond the national cabinet’s list.

So, get ready to kick back, relax, and make the most of these upcoming holidays in the UAE. And remember, we’re here to support you every step of the way as you plan your teaching adventure abroad with Teaching Nomad. ✨🌍🎉

Beyond the Games: Beijing’s Enduring Olympic Sites and Monuments https://www.teachingnomad.com/blog/blog/beijing-olympic-sites/ Tue, 30 Jul 2024 16:55:59 +0000 https://www.teachingnomad.com/?p=17154

Watching the Paris 2024 Games and your Olympic juices are flowing? Are you a fan of the Olympics or just someone interested in exploring historical sites? Look no further! Beijing is chock-full of must-see locations from the 2008 Olympic Games. Whether you’re a sports enthusiast or just interested in the cultural significance of these sites, there’s something for everyone.

In preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympics, Beijing went all out. Starting as early as 2003, almost $7 billion were spent to construct twelve new sports venues, renovate the airport, expand the subway system, and more to prepare for the games. Beijing’s Olympic Green, also known as Olympic Park, is where many of the new venues were built and is a must-see for sports fans and architecture aficionados alike.

Birds Nest Stadium

One of the most notable locations is the Bird’s Nest Stadium. This magnificent stadium, designed by renowned Swiss architect Jacques Herzog, is now used mainly for football games and concerts. Visitors can take a tour of the stadium, which includes access to the seating bowl, media areas, and even the locker rooms used by the athletes during the Olympics. At night the stadium is lit up magnificently, and as I did below you can get some great photographs with reflections from the nearby bodies of water.

If you’re interested in diving deep into Chinese art and culture, the National Stadium art museum, located inside the Bird’s Nest Stadium, is just the place. This museum hosts a variety of exhibitions ranging from contemporary art to ancient Chinese artifacts.

Bird's Nest Stadium

Aquatics Centre

Another top destination is the Water Cube Aquatics Centre, a beautiful and unique building that was awarded the title of World Building of the Year in 2008. Today, the Water Cube has been turned into a village-style water park, complete with a lazy river and water slides for all ages. One happy traveler says, “it’s a fun place to spend the day, whether you’re with friends or family.” This building is covered with a unique, bubble-like outer membrane, which is particularly impressive at night when it lights up and changes colour.

Beijing Aquatics Center

Olympic Forest Park

Around 2 km to the north of the Bird’s Nest lies Olympic Forest Park, which is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and a popular exercising spot among locals. If you live nearby, you can enjoy a jog or stroll around the park’s many lakes and ponds in the morning or evening.

Olympic Forest Park

These are just a few of the amazing Olympic sites you can visit in Beijing. If you’re teaching in China, be sure to add these locations to your Berijing trip itinerary. And if you need any assistance or advice on teaching or living abroad, Teaching Nomad is here to help every step of the way. We strive to provide the best support and guidance to help you make the most out of your adventure in China.

1. Earn Your TEFL Certification

First things first, let’s talk qualifications. While you don’t necessarily need a degree in English or education, most employers will look for a TEFL(Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification. It’s like your golden ticket to the teaching world. Don’t worry, getting certified is totally doable and often done online, so you can study at your own pace. There are also opportunities to take the course in-person across the world with guranteed job placements for when you complete the course.
